How It All Began

Every build has a story before the first rivet. Ours starts with a van that actually was white.
Let’s address the elephant on the driveway first. This blog is called White Campervan, and the van in the pictures is dark grey. That needs some history.
The original white campervan was a Marco Polo. We went on several trips with it and travelled a lot. It taught us that we love this way of travelling: pick a direction, take your house with you, see where you end up.
It also taught us what we were missing. The Marco Polo is a great little bus, but it is not big enough for two people who also want to work on the road. And it has no toilet. On paper a detail. In practice, not.
So the wishlist grew. More space, a proper place to work remotely, a toilet. Something bigger, but still drivable. A van, not a truck.
Then the research started. Plenty of evenings of Instagram, YouTube and build blogs. Slowly a picture formed: an L3H2 Sprinter. The Sprinter chassis and engine get the best reviews, and the L3H2 gives real room without giving up on being a van. The weight and the shape are a challenge for a conversion, I know. But for me, driving is at least half of the travel experience, so it had to be good at being a van first.
And then we found this one. White would have been the obvious choice, given the name. But I fell for the stylish dark grey. Sober, almost stealth. It might ask for a bit more insulation, and it means the name of this blog now needs a footnote. Worth it.
The hardest part came last. The Marco Polo was sold recently, so we could buy the Sprinter. One van out, one van in. This blog carries the old one’s name.
That is it in the photo above, roof up and awning out, doing what it did best.
Next up: the pickup, and everything after it. The build log starts here.
