Twenty Centimetres to Spare

Yesterday the tent went up without knowing whether the van would fit under it. Today I found out.
Twenty centimetres. That is what is left between the roof of the van and the canvas above it.
Yesterday I put a marquee up in the garden and ended the post without knowing whether the van would actually fit under it. That was the open question. An L3H2 Sprinter is a tall thing and the tent was a guess.
Before anything could drive anywhere, the cobblestones had to move. The heap sat right in the line between the driveway and the tent. They are reclaimed stones and they will be used later, so they were not going far, but they went from a pile in the way to a flat area next to the gravel. Better for them, and better for the van.
Then the run in. I laid an orange strap down the middle of the grass to aim at, went slow, and watched the canvas more than the ground.
It fits. About twenty centimetres of air above the roof.
That is enough for what this was for. The van stands in the dry and I can walk all the way around it. It is not enough to stand on the roof, so anything up there, solar included, still needs a dry day and open sky.
So the garden is a workshop now. Two weekend days went into it and neither of them involved touching the van itself. Worth it.
Next up: back inside, and back to the panels.
